DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS


Attention Students: Dress for Success! Our dress code is a valuable guide, ensuring appropriate attire for school and all functions. It also equips you with a vital skill for future employment success. At East, we encourage practicing the distinction between work and recreation attire, fostering a foundation for long-term achievements. Our principles prioritize clothing that maintains a focused learning environment, preserves school activities, and upholds safety standards. Dress code matters for your academic journey!

FOR ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS, READ BELOW:

1. For the safety of students and staff members, students may wear ear buds or over-the-ear headphones in the classroom only when participating in a teacher directed activity, or when in the cafeteria and hallways.  For the safety of students and staff members, while in the cafeteria and hallways, students may only wear one ear bud and over-the-ear headphones must be worn so that one ear remains uncovered. 

2. Students must remove hats and/or other head coverings, including hoods (hooded sweatshirts/jackets worn up), handkerchiefs, durags, bandanas, bonnets, shower caps, sunglasses, full-faced masks, face paint, or other disguises that may inhibit the identification of the individual when they enter the building and throughout the entire school day. An administrator must approve any head coverings worn for religious significance or medical reasons. 

3. Pajama attire of any kind, including bedroom slippers or house shoes, is prohibited.  Blankets and Snuggies are prohibited.

4. Pants shall be worn fastened and at the waist.  It is unacceptable for undergarments to be exposed.  Sagging pants are prohibited. 

5. Outfits that provide minimum coverage are prohibited.  Examples include: transparent, strapless, off-the-shoulder, low-cut, halters, backless dresses or tops, tube tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, and muscle shirts.  Shirts with sleeves must be worn under sleeveless jerseys.

6. Any articles of clothing or jewelry that could likely cause injury are prohibited.  Wallet chains of any length are prohibited. 

7. Apparel or symbols which may be gang-related may not be displayed on a student's person or in the student’s possession, vehicle or other locations on campus.

8. Gang-related tattoos, or other tattoos that may cause a substantial disruption to the educational environment, as determined by the principal are prohibited.

9. Shoes shall be worn at all times.

10.  Apparel, emblems, insignias, badges, or symbols that promote the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, violence, sex, or any other illegal activity are prohibited. This includes anything from the "Cookies" brand and any alcohol-related designs.

Note: The school administration reserves the right to appraise current fashion or Fad and determine whether it is appropriate for school. Students must be in dress code compliance when entering school grounds, during all after-school events, and at all times while students are on campus. 

Dress code will be checked daily and strongly enforced.
