The Medical Academy is a three-year program which offers students the opportunity to graduate with a Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and a Certified EKG Technician certification. Students have the opportunity to use their certifications in the real world, immediately following High School graduation. This provides them with many job opportunities in hospitals, nursing homes, and medical clinics.

While Certified Nursing Assistants and Certified EKG Technicians are entry-level medical positions, they do help give a solid foundation for the students to further their education to pursue more advanced medical careers, such as nurses and doctors.

The Medical Academy is regulated by both the Lee County School District and the Florida Board of Nursing. Therefore, students are held to high expectations. Students are required to pass their FSA, and all classes related to obtaining their High School Diploma. Students must have a clean disciplinary record, and not have any ISS or OSS. There are also course grade requirements for each class as the student progresses through the academy.

Course Progression
Students enter the Medical Academy in their Sophomore year. Health Science I - which teaches them about the structure and function of the human body.

Junior year, students will take Health Science II, which teaches basic concepts for health care providers and Nursing Assistants. Students will learn principles and skills for patient safety, fire safety, infection control, nutrition, first aid, and many other healthcare related skills. Finally, students will be selected to be in the Certified Nursing Assistant and Allied Health classes during their Senior year. Students are chosen for the Senior level classes based on Board of Nursing and Lee County School District criteria. Seats for the Certified Nursing Assistant classes are limited, and the most qualified students are selected for these classes.

Senior year, they will have the opportunity to demonstrate and practice the skills they have learned in a nursing home and hospital environment, while they are taking the Certified Nursing Assistant Class. Allied Health students will have opportunities to shadow health care professionals in a healthcare setting. This year, students have job shadowed in both Gulf Coast and Health Park hospitals. Some students even had the opportunity to see minor surgical procedures and heart catheterization procedures. Allied Health students also study to earn their Certified EKG Technician certificate.
